If
an unmarried couple’s relationship breaks down, they will
need to divide the assets which they own, both personal assets
and property. The ideal solution is for couples to reach an
agreement about how those assets should be divided. We can
prepare a Deed of Separation reflecting that agreement.
If it is not possible to reach agreement, Court proceedings
may have to be issued to establish what interest, if any,
a person may have in property and/or ask the Court to Order
that a property should be sold and the proceeds divided
between the parties. These proceedings can be costly and
lengthy. It is far better to reach an agreement if at all
possible.
