Domestic abuse can take many forms and does not discriminate
between class, race, age, disability, sexual orientation
or education. It can also take many forms including physical,
verbal, emotional and financial control.
Physical violence is a criminal offence. However, police
intervention can often be inappropriate and/or inadequate.
Therefore a civil injunction may be necessary.
A non-molestation order against an associated person can
be applied for to prohibit further violence and domestic
abuse. Orders can also be made requiring the perpetrator
to vacate the family home. These orders are called occupation
orders, and both types of injunction can be applied for
to protect adults and children.
These orders can be made on an emergency basis.
